Kane County General Plan Update

The Kane County Commission has just concluded a process undertaken in 2011 to update the Kane County, Utah General Plan which was created in 1998.   In 1998, the General Plan was created pursuant to Utah Code (Section 17-27-303) guidelines.  A general plan provides for the health, safety and general welfare of both residents and visitors to Kane County.

The Kane County Board of Commissioners adopted the 1998 Plan which outlines goals and policies for unincorporated land use; transportation and access management; conservation and development of natural resources; protection against natural and human caused hazards; provision of public services; preservation of historic resources; development of the economic base; accommodation of affordable housing; and partnering with federal and state land management agencies.

The Community and Economic Development Division staff of the Five County Association of Governments worked with the Kane County Planning Commission to prepare an update of the earlier plan.  As the updated plan was developed draft documents were posted on the “Documents” page of this web site. The process has now been completed and the Kane County Commission formally adopted the new Kane County General Plan at its November 28, 2011 Commission Meeting.

The adopted Kane County General Plan was just posted on November 29, 2011.   Please click HERE or on the “Documents” tab at top of the page to view the adopted General Plan as well as all of the earlier draft plan documents.

Also, maps that correspond with the Kane County General Plan are now posted on the Maps page.   Please click HERE or on the “Maps” tab at top of the page to view all of the General Plan maps.

The General Plan update process began in the spring of 2011 and continued throughout the summer and wrapped up during the fall of 2011.  This update started with a good base of the 1998 General Plan document.  While all sections were reviewed and updated, the main focus of this update was on the Public Lands section and the Land Use section. Those two sections needed the most work.  The intent was to make sure that the ordinances of Kane County and the General Plan are consistent and there are no policy conflicts.

In addition to the Kane County General Plan the new Kane County Resource Management Plan (RMP) was also just posted on November 29, 2011.   Please click  HERE or on the “Documents” tab at top of the page to view the adopted Resource Management Plan as well as all of the earlier draft RMP documents.
